Girl Scout Little House
Gordon Drive & 6th Avenue

The first Girl Scout Council in Decatur was organized by the late Julia Chenault in 1943. In 1944, the Wheeler Area Girl Scout Council convinced the City of Decatur to let them convert the open air band shell structure in Delano Park to a meeting place. The stone framework was enclosed with cement blocks and put under roof in 1947, thus becoming the Girl Scout Little House. Extensive renovation occurred to the property with the help of a community wide fund raiser in the early 1980’s.

The house has served as a Council office and continues to serve as a meeting place for girls and adults of North Central Alabama. Special events celebrating Girl Scouting, sleep overs, leader training, and more still takes place within these walls.
