The Edwards-Digges House
214 Canal Street, NE

The Edwards-Digges house dates from 1904. It was later raised onto its present foundation to provide for a crawl space under the house. It is a Victorian Cottage with a wrap-around porch. The original Edwards family owner was a haberdasher and had his store front on Bank Street near the present location of Simp McGee’s. At one time there was a carriage house in the backyard which housed the family buggy and occasionally the family horse.

The house remained in the Edwards family for more than 80 years. The house had a couple of owners before being acquired by Brenda Digges in 2008. Recently, the daughter of the last Edwards to live in the house visited and graciously provided a wealth of information about the history of the house.

The Edwards-Digges house retains many of its original features – 14 foot ceilings, original hardwood flooring, transoms, French doors, and original claw foot bathtub. The current owner collects vintage holiday items and enjoys decorating for the holidays.
